Politics again

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Republicans have made Transgender rights removal a key national priority
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2016/03/25/turns-out-its-the-national-republican-party-pushing-for-trans-discrimination/

There you have it. That is why if you have any feeling for Trans folk you should not vote Republican.

It is also why you should not vote Hillary "Political Negotiator" Clinton. She brags about being the insider deal maker. If she is President then any time she goes to make a deal, to get a nominee for SCOTUS confirmed, to defend or fund Obama care, for any and all tax change, the Republicans are going to demand in return above all else the roll back of T* rights. ANd is she going to cave?

Yes. In a word. T* is a small constituency and thinly spread across the nation, so she will lose few direct votes and if she caves early in her Presidency then it'll still be in the honeymoon period and she'll have -as a political insider and experienced Washington machine operator knows- plenty of time to cover that caving on Trans rights with other initiatives.

So if you know a trans person, if you have any feeling for trans people, if you oppose discriminatory rights roll backs, please do not support a Republican or Hillary Clinton. She is going to make a deal to get her way and given the prioritizing of a very vulnerable and politically weak demographic as the target of the Republicans, she is going to have no problem throwing trans folk under the bus. Electorally, it won't hurt her and she knows it.

Please don't troll me it's a very nice Sunday afternoon

Re: Politics again

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry that a truth is inconvenient, but for Trans folk this makes it a less nice afternoon.

Re: Politics again

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The trans* stuff isn't what I'm referring to (and it is deplorable, and I wish you hadn't roped it into your hate Clinton crusade).

Is this news or a surprise to anyone? I would have thought this was a known thing by now, like the sky is blue

Re: Politics again

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That Clinton is a moderate and a pragmatist is well known.

That she is going to, Day 1, sell out every single core Democratic value and political plank is a fantasy of OP's.

Re: Politics again

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I was talking about the Republican thing and the Hillary being a moderate that's more likely to compromise thing

Both of those are true, though OP's insisting that Hillary will sell everyone out is wild speculation

People insist she'll never compromise on civil rights in order to protect her wall street backer's interests. It is the biggest lie in her campaign, every civil right is on the table in order to get a moderate wall street financier into an appointee position or protect a financial proposition. I don't know why people refuse to accept it while touting her as a political operator who knows how the machine works.

She's a compromiser, yes. But I've seen no evidence that she's a one-issue politician who will compromise on everything else to get that one issue through. I'm voting for Sanders, but if the choice is between Hillary and any of the Republicans I'm voting for her.

Re: Politics again

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
People refuse to accept it because it's not true. It doesn't even require liking Hillary Clinton to reach that conclusion, just a conception of American political processes that's not fatally flawed.

Clinton will cut social welfare stuff, sure, but not central civil rights stuff.

Easier to overturn wholesale bad decisions than unpick a tapestry of them. Rolling back Trump's bullshit wholesale with national support in 2020 will be easier than trying to reform all the bad decisions Hillary makes after her indictment and impeachment in 2018. We all know her Veep will be finishing her presidency, or possibly even her veep's veep depending how deep she delves into her well of corruption for that position.

Re: Politics again

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sympathetic to the OP, & I agree that 'President Hillary Crookton' is potentially a Very Bad Thing for the Democratic Party. But I doubt the line of argument that a Trump revolution will be easier to overturn.

We never overturned the Reagan Revolution, did we? Granted, that one had a lot of Democratic Party help, and I suppose Trump's fascist stint in the White House wouldn't.

Maybe you have a point, but I'm worried that Trump will do a lot of damage that's harder to undo. (At least Cruz looks set to lose.)

Check what Kansas is trying to pass

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-03-27 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If you see someone trans in your school bathroom, you can sue the school for two and a half grand. http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2016/03/22/3762490/kansas-transgender-ransom-bathrooms/ Any schools in Kansas we particularly want to bankrupt?

It's sad I'm not surprised they're trying this. It's fucking disgusting.

I like my city and the people here but the government in Kansas sucks donkey dick. What the fuck is wrong with those people??

I'd personally rather Bernie win the nomination than Hilary. But I really, really don't buy this narrative. I don't buy that, if elected, Hilary will cave on trans rights, and I don't buy that anytime a compromise is necessary, Republicans will target trans people.

This is a very facile argument to me.

Yeah, better not vote for the candidate who's actually done anything for trans people and who's made these issues a real part of her campaign the whole time: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/03/24/how-hillary-clinton-moved-trans-rights-forward.html

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/04/us/politics/pledging-to-fight-injustices-hillary-clinton-focuses-on-transgender-rights-in-speech.html

https://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/lgbt-equality/

But these potty police and other nonsense anti-LGBT laws are so good for business that corporations are falling all over themselves to condemn them and boycott the states where they're happening, so of course Hillary will bow down to her corporate masters and support them...? Keep writing that indictment fanfic, though. All fanfic comes true eventually, right? Don't let the past 25 years of right wing failure to sink Hillary Clinton stop you. Don't stop belieeeevinnn

Yeah I can't believe the kind of crap Bernie sanders "fans" will spout. Glad I voted for Hilary.

So what will YOU do if it's Hillary vs. a Repub this year? Just sit it out? A Republican candidate - any of them - would be far worse (for trans people and in general) than Hillary. And I think you know this.

Nice attempt at trying to rope in Hillary on the GOP shittiness. Go back to Tumblr, you Bernie Bro.
