Just the difficulty of finding a job. I did send off 5 applications yesterday. But the frustration of entry level positions that require 3-5 years of experience. WTF? Internships can add up to one or maybe two years. What other legal experience to you expect first-time lawyers to have?

Also, Immigration is a federal issue. You don't need a state-specific license. Except a lot of immigration-only firms require it for some reason.

I don't get that either. I would like Forbes to cover that for once, as opposed to "why entitled people suck at finding jobs."

Exact same for entry level engineering positions. Nobody will have 3 years experience right out of undergrad?
And then when you talk to people who work there they'll say "oh all we really need is people with common sense who are willing to work hard" which funnily enough usually seems to be people who know someone who works there.

... Sorry I took your bitter post and made it 100x more bitter!

Exactly. Like, I'm really glad I chose the law school I did because at least I have 4 internships, so I usually count that as 2 years and apply for the 1-3 years experience jobs. Most other graduates have 1, maybe 2, though.

I don't know. Depending on the engineering discipline, most people I know worked every single summer and most worked part time jobs through undergrad.

Have you tried applying to the TSA then transitioning to a better Federal service after the five year initial service requirement. TSA only requires high school diploma or equivalent but service there does qualify you for posts in other Federal services where degrees are normally an entrance requirement.

I did apply for a few asylum officer positions, but they prefer people with more experience. I really want an immigration law job, but if none of these come through I'm going to have to expand out into other areas. I have less knowledge and experience in those areas, though.

Federal is tough with immigration because they are kind of the bad guys. I really don't want to be the person deporting people. I would not be comfortable with that. Asylum officers make the decisions on asylum cases, so that would be cool. But actually prosecuting immigrants? No thanks.
