I've never read the Dark Cauldron books so I only know that Disney made a bland movie called TDC. However, I have been told that it was Disney's Nine(?) Old Men who's interference and old fashioned attitudes talked the first adaptation. The old men are gone and, while they need to push the envelope more, Disney is taking more chances. And even with Marvel and Lucasfilm in their grasp, they still want a Lord of the Rings to their name.
