I always seemed potentially darker to me than Disney would do it justice, tbh.

What the bleepity bleep? I'd managed to purge memories of that movie from the deep, dark recesses of my brain, and now you're telling me they might make another one?

Ugh.

These are my feelings =( I wish I could be optimistic, because I loved the books, but after that hatchet job they did on Eilonwy, nope nope nope.

I haven't even read the books and that movie made me roll my eyes. Disney, I love you but...

I have to admit, I'd love to see Arawn as a bossfight in Kingdom Hearts.

I feel you. I love those books, but the movie was a mess. I don't trust Disney with them at all.

I never read the books, but the movie was just so disapointingly dull as a movie. I'd be anticipating the shapeshifting fight between the witch and the wizard only to remember that was actually in The Sword in the Stone and then I'd be sad.

You're not alone in getting those two movies mixed up.

Just watched it...

I first encountered the books (loved them) in the mid 80's. I've probably read them a dozen times by now. Just finished rereading them again a couple weeks ago. They still hold up. Far more readable as an adult than Narnia.

I first saw the movie in college. I hated it. Pissed me off to no end. However, as I was reading them this time around, I had the masochistic notion to try the movie again. Especially after reading Alexander's reaction to the film. Having just watched it a couple of nights ago, I have to agree with him. It's an ok movie, it just has nothing to do with his books.

Maybe they can turn this over to the people who are doing Star Wars or the Marvel films. Then we could get a decent live-action version.

Can't be any worse than the shit pile that is the Hobbit films.

I so agree with you, OP.

I'm very fond of Alexander's books and I don't like the Disney movie.

I'll just sit here in my corner and plug my ears and sing " la la la " till this apparently blows over, OK?

You're not alone in feeling nervous, but I feel it would work much better as a TV series than a movie series (because how on earth do you adapt Taran Wanderer?)

Fingers crossed.

I remember liking the film but I haven't seen it since I was a kid. I don't really remember it all that well except that it was extremely different than the books. I read the books in college and enjoyed them a lot so I hope they can do the story justice for once. Maybe if its not animated they'll be able to do the story justice. I'm not too worried. Disney has changed a lot as a company and they have been more willing to cover darker material lately. They've done a really good job with Marvel and Star Wars so I don't really see it being different. I want to see what they do with The Jungle Book first since that looks suitably dark.

...wait what they did?!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never read the Dark Cauldron books so I only know that Disney made a bland movie called TDC. However, I have been told that it was Disney's Nine(?) Old Men who's interference and old fashioned attitudes talked the first adaptation. The old men are gone and, while they need to push the envelope more, Disney is taking more chances. And even with Marvel and Lucasfilm in their grasp, they still want a Lord of the Rings to their name.

Have hope, Anon. And take names. If things do go bad, you'll want to choke the right bitches, not just some random person.
