Re: Here's a baby polar bear

A patrician choice my friend.

Although now I'm a little sad that I am not and never will be baby polar bear.

Yes, being cannibalised by starving adult polar bears because climate change is forcing them to extinction sounds just so much fun. How darling.

Oh, shoo.

Jesus. This is so not the thread for brutal reality, motherfucker.

Welcome to the real world. Where the rare metals that make up your laptop, tablet, smart phone, TV will be coming from the Arctic in the near future. Further driving these animals to the brink and causing them suffering.

But hey, nevermind that, OMG CUTE BABY ANIMALS. YAYYYYYYYY

Something tells me you aren't trying to help the Earth with this comment, but rather you're deliberately being a jackass.

How disingenuous.

Re: Here's a baby polar bear

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well if I wanted to ~help the earth~ with a comment on a dreamwidth forum I - wouldn't. I'd step away from the computer and actually do something to help.

But if you're looking for context, here it is: I work in this field, all day long I get to look at data that is depressing as fuck. Then I get to read comments about omg how wonderful it would be to be a baby polar bear. Made by people who have no fucking clue and don't want to know because hello, the truth is depressing.

Fuck that and fuck them.

You sound like you need to take a step back. You've gone into a thread made by someone asking for something to make them happy that sounds pretty sad right now, and deliberately shit on their happiness because... you're bitter and unhappy, and everyone else should be bitter and unhappy, too?

I'm sorry you're unhappy, anon. I wish the world were a better place too and full of more aware people. But. There are ways to correct someone factually or spread awareness without attempting to drag everyone down with you. Deliberately making people unhappy isn't helping them or you.

Re: Here's a baby polar bear

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
There are correct ways, huh? Please do enlighten us. Because from where I'm sitting, noone gives a shit. It has been that way for decades, it seems to keep being that way despite the fact that we are causing very great harm to our planet and all of the other species on it.

But you know, maybe people have just been incorrectly spreading this information all this time.

And no, I don't want everyone to be bitter and unhappy. But sometimes people are just ignorant enough to get my goat and make my temper slip its leash.

Re: Here's a baby polar bear

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't mean to be a downer, but things aren't so great for baby polar bears. What we're doing with the climate is destroying their habitat, leading to horrific thing X, Y, and Z happening.

If you want more information about that, here are some links where you can educate yourself about the plight of polar bears and find out what you can do to help the poor bears if you're so inclined. But overall, the polar bears are very threatened right now. I know it's terrible to think about, but that's the truth."

It's leaps away from

"Welcome to the real world."

Which encourages zero people to help or learn.

Ah yes, another prat who thinks that FS is the right forum for delivering complex and upsetting scientific information in a straightforward and accessible way.

There are a ton of documentaries out there that are trying to present this information. How many of those have you and sad!OP watched? I'm going to bet on zero.

Which encourages zero people to help or learn.

That's what I do with my day job, pal. I'm off the clock here. And even though I'm not a nice person and am not claiming to be, at least I'm fucking doing something with my life. So stick it up your sanctimonious jaxy and fuck off.

Re: Here's a baby polar bear

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if I answered your questions about the documentaries, you wouldn't believe me. So as you wish, I will leave.

I'm sorry you're so unhappy, anon.

If this is not the correct forum for delivering complex and upsetting scientific information in a straightforward and accessible way, it's probably not the correct forum for being a complete fucking jackass, either.

ok but like. do you think anon actually literally wants to be a polar bear? I highly doubt it.

And other people clearly don't have the exposure you do to this information, so how can you expect them to respond to it the same way? Lashing out at peoples' non-willful ignorance because not everyone has time to be an expert is such a dick move.

And I still think you're being a dick on purpose.

They sound like an artist I used to follow who decided, since their environmental video didn't get as many hits as their speed-paint video, that it meant people didn't care about the environment.

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-03-29 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Were they a massive dick about it? This anon is honestly worse from what I can see.

(that's a pretty silly notion though - especially if she advertised herself as an artist; people are going to be going to her sites to look for art)

Re: Here's a baby polar bear

(Anonymous) 2016-03-31 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, compared to anon they come off as positively calm. They're more prone to pretentious rants and generally looking down on people who (they think) doesn't agree with them.

But you can take joy in the fact that out there in the world, there are such things as baby polar bears <3
