Re: Pairing Thread
(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)I ship Frodo x Sam as a non-endgame, actually? I only ship them as being in a sort of romantic/sexual relationship pre-Mount Doom, and I feel like after that, Frodo was just kind of done with that level of engagement with life on Middle Earth and unable to be in any sort of romantic relationship anymore, and Sam understood and quietly without having to discuss it out loud or even really explicitly acknowledging what this meant to himself, sort of just moved on and kind of believed that now that things were going back to normal they'd at least still be platonic friends forever, and then fell in love with Rosie under that assumption, not realizing that Frodo's trauma ran even deeper than that. And he took Frodo's words about not being forever torn in two to heart, but that didn't stop him from going to Valinor in the end anyway...and I wonder if he hoped to meet Frodo there again or if he knew Frodo would probably be dead by then and just wanted to follow him one last time.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-29 12:14 am (UTC)(link)I semi-ship Frodo/Sam and Frodo/Sam/Rosie, and I agree with your assessment. It feels the most realistic and genuine to the situation.
A possible Frodo/Sam reunion in Valinor is definitely something I'd be up for reading about. I ship Frodo/Sam/Rosie when I throw canon out the window and just want everyone to have a happy ending.
