5. Aw, I'm sorry you're too dumb for Death Note. And DBZ and YYH are so obscure and shit, too.

10. I suspect most of them are jokes. I hope so, anyway!

18. Oh, honey don't let that stop you. I never do!

23. WORD.

25. YAY I LOVE THAT SHOW. If I was a fanartist I'd draw all kinds of cracked-out stuff.

32. Ouch. You do realize that people don't generally have ten-point plans for being BNFs though, right? Some people are famous because they're awesome.

33. I don't agree, but "Sorry, pal." made me LOL. :D

41. Ianto's the one who looks good in a suit. Also, thanks for being one of the reasons even [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_three is a futile, frustrating search for fic I might like, asshole.

45. Hint: Not everyone's just like you.

46 & 47: I want to give you both hugs.

59. Unreadable secret is unreadable.

63. HAY HANDS OFF BRAINY. Also, stop making me want to watch that.

68. It's okay! Because incest in fandom isn't real, and has nothing to do with your own family dynamics.

HAY NO ONE ASKED YOU

It's not shamefully embarrassing that a year+ later, I still have an AU in my head where Brainy comes to the SV-verse, right?

right?

[identity profile] windschaser.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I DID NOT WAIT TO BE ASKED.

Not at all ♥

Also, uhuhuhu icon.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Whew. ♥

I loves me that icon.

5. I think you accidently switched "Death Note" and "you" in that sentence. :(

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked the first arc a lot! It had its less-than-stellar moments to be sure, though. But if someone's grouping DN as inferior to Slam Dunk and DBZ, then I think it's going over their head-- they're apples and oranges. Or maybe apples, oranges and kumquats.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree the series should not really be compared. And I also enjoyed the first third or so of Death Note, but that just made my disappointment bigger. In the end, DN failed to live up to its potential, and it really is not half as intellectual as its fans keep insisting. Having a good idea is one thing, keeping it interesting beyond the 30th chapter is another thing entirely, and much harder.
And almost whenever I voice my dislike of DN (as a whole, not just the first few chapters) I get rudely insulted because obviously I'm dumb.

At least Dragonball kept me entertained for a much longer time, and did not pretend to be wiser than it actually was...

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I didn't mean to insult the intelligence of everyone who doesn't like Death Note. I liked it through the end, but my enjoyment factor was definitely more due to 'ooh, suspense' in the beginning and 'lolz crack' at the end.

Dragonball was adorable, and I liked DBZ until...oh, Majin Buu or so.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I likd it because of 'oooh, suspense', too. Each chapter had me discussing with a friend what would happen next, and we couldn't wait to see how it would continue, and each chapter brought some unexpected twist... and then, eventually, there were chapters that had no twists, and reading the continuation became less pressing, and it wasn't so much fun to discuss anymore...
And when I eventually figured that the manga did not give a crap about characterization and emotional responses of the characters... I just gave up and have not missed it one bit ever since.

It's unfortunate when a manga cannot live up to its own beginning. :/

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
But all too common, sadly.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, I agree.
I'm just experiencing the same with Psyren. It had relatively exciting first six chapters, but is now turning more generic by the chapter. Now I only read it to try and spot all the things the author ripped from Hunter X Hunter. =D

Of course, a great first impression is important in Weekly Jump, else the series gets cancelled again. And planning the first arch is a lot easier than planning the next, BIGGER arch of an endless manga series...

In the end, DN failed to live up to its potential, and it really is not half as intellectual as its fans keep insisting.

I just wanted to thank you for letting me know that I'm not alone.
