He said "most of you don't even know half of the series", which is different from "no one will recognize any of the series".

But I think this was just a small afterthought of the secret anyway, not its main point. The main point would have been that the manga from that particular time frame were supposedly better than the manga that are running and popular today.
Nowhere does he say he considers all of these series obscure, just that he regrets that many fans of today don't know many of the great, old titles (and I bet that he's sort of right there, even if he's being an elitist ass about it).

I know not everyone who disagrees with the secret is complaining about the same factor, but I just find this "no way, how dare you say DB is objectively better than DN?! DN is objectively better than DB" stuff rather dumb.

And as someone who has only been an anime fan for a few years and know other new anime fans, I'd say that he's completely wrong there.

Just because someone is new doesn't mean they haven't read (and enjoyed) the older stuff. The reason new series get all the attention is because they're currently ongoing with new chapters out each week. It's a lot easier to hold discussions/make icons/post secrets/etc when you're getting new material all the time.

I completely agree with that. It's a lot easier to get a hold of the new titles, and it's also a matter of time. I can't keep up to date with the new manga and also read up on the old titles.
But I do believe that there are a lot more casual anime/manga fans who aren't even considering any older series. *shrugs*
And that's really all. Either way, I don't consider it a big problem, it's just so normal, and it's the exact same thing in every other area, with movies, with music, and so on.
