Are you me, OP? Seriously, I've binge watched this show last summer and this was my first and only slash ship that I actually felt could be realized. It's highly unlikely it will happen, but still. So many moments in this show when I was 100% certain those two must be mad about each other. It was so blatantly obvious sometimes that I find it hard to believe it wasn't written like that on purpose. If one of them was female you'd just know they're meant to end up together at some point.

It's funny, because on the one hand I agree that's absolutely how the series reads. On the other hand, like... This is a series that made Root/Shaw explicitly canon so part of me thinks they wouldn't be coy about it if that's the direction they were going.

I genuinely dont know! But either way it is a good ship.

Such a good point!

The series is absolutely, totally built on Reese loving Finch; I've just never seen it as sexual or even romantic...perhaps because we have such a strong counterpoint of a tale of attraction, physical push-pull in Root and Shaw: With them, the writers create not only an I Would Lay My Life Down For You tale (again, TOTALLY Reese re: Finch!) but also desire, played down or low-volume (oh, Shaw) as it may be.

I used to agree with this. I thought they were so well done and they were going in a direction that I could see them only being able to rely on each other and coming to trust each other, which is so big for them.

But then the show seemed, to me, to be walking it back. Like, I know the guy who plays Reese is pretty conservative so I don't think he'd be comfortable with it. In show, you have that conversation right before Carter dies where he says she saved him (retconning how they explicitly said it was Finch) and then they added the forced romance between Reese and his therapist. It feels like they're doing everything they can to distance themselves from the earlier possibility.

I really would like some kind of declaration of affection. Personally, I think the ending is going to be bittersweet where they win but die in the process. I also feel like Finch's fiance is still out there. Her last episode sort of wrapped it up but I don't know, maybe he still holds out hope he could be reunited with her again despite how unrealistic that is?

I really hope they do hook up Reese and Finch in some manner. I would be over the moon! I feel like it's a little bit possible but I've also become less convinced of it as the series progresses.

One of the major reasons I pretty much hated the 4th season was how they separated Finch and Reese. While the previous seasons were very much built on their evolving friendship (and growing mutual affection), the latest season ditched all of it, making the show into something completely different. Before, I was almost positive this show would 'go there' in at least some subtle way, but I feel like they now just wish the audience would forget all about it. And I love Carter, but man, did I hate how they've shoehorned the "you saved me" thing, when up until that point it was being said Finch saved him. I get mad just thinking about it.

Isn't this the same show that went canon with a femslash ship? I've never seen it, this is just what I got from fandom osmosis.

Yes.

Ugh, I ship this SO HARD. My shipping kind of went dormant for a while because of the long delay in airing S5 and because last season it seemed like they hardly had any screen time together. But then the air date for S5 was announced and suddenly my love for this ship reawoke. At this point, I kind of doubt they'll ever be canon, but as long as S5 has them working together and makes it clear how much they mean to each other, I will make do.

The show, yes, the actor no. (Caviezel, not Emerson.)
