Probably bc abusive people do insidious things to brains and prey on people who are vulnerable to that insidiousness?

AYRT - Yeah, but while I do recognize that some of these people may be victims of abuse, I'm really asking more generally. So assuming the person isn't being abused, why would they do/allow those things?

If they're not themselves being abused, their moral compass either points due fucked, or spins in a circle. Or maybe like another anon said, they're in obsessive love with someone and see their parents as an obstacle, especially if their parents are concerned about the intensity of the relationship and take steps to stop it or ease it back.

It could be that they themselves are sociopaths, but I think another likely explanation is that they ARE victims of abuse, albeit a more subtle form than what you're expecting. I don't know of many abusers who only target the kids and not their spouse as well. I don't think it's a simple case of allowing someone to abuse your child at all, and it's a bit peculiar you seem so determined to argue that there are people who do this just 'cause. Is there some larger point you're trying to make, perhaps?
