And while their is a little bit of mentoring going on it's only as far as Kiyoko is the one with the managing experience between the two that she passes on to her replacement. That is not really what people are usually squicked about in a mentor/student relationship.
I really don't ship it and think having to ship it because of peer pressure from the fandom is stupid, but the arguments you listed are kinda ridiculous too, imo. It's okay to just not ship something.
OP
(Anonymous) 2016-04-01 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)But I'm not squicked by that or the student/mentor part of the relationship, or anything for that matter. Being "squicked" isn't what this is about. I'm just saying it's not the kind of relationship the other popular ships in the fandom have, so it's weird that this one would be popular when there are other relationships like that which don't get shipped as much. I disagree that Kuroo/Tsukki proves there are, when it isn't as popular as Kuroken and Tsukkiyama.

If it were twelve and thirteen years old I would agree, but it is sixteen and eighteen years old. At least in my experience that's a perfectly normal gap at that age. I would argue that Yachi's behaviour towards Kiyoko is due to her personality and not age. Tsukki doesn't behave that way towards any of the third years even though they're also two years apart, and neither does Lev. Or Kyoutani, for an extreme example of how personality influences the behaviour towards seniors. Yachi acts more childlike/naive than the other characters and is treated more childlike in return (Ennoshita protecting her by holding Tanaka and Noya back when they were going to overwhelm her, the kids from the old Coach Ukai asking her if she's a middle schooler and calling her "Yacchi", the scene at the BBQ, etc.).
I honestly don't follow why the fact that Kuroo/Tsukki isn't the most popular pairing for either characters means that Kiyoko/Yachi can't be the most popular pairing for those characters. If anything that would prove even more that Kiyoko/Yachi should be the most popular ship for them because fandom largely ships along the lines of the pairs provided by canon: Hinata/Kageyama, Tsukki/Yamaguchi, Daichi/Suga, Asahi/Noya, Kuroo/Kenma, Bokuto/Akaashi and Kiyoko/Yachi. Shipping them completely falls in line with the shipping behaviour of general HQ fandom.
