I feel you. Some of the kindest reviews I've gotten on my (extremely slowly updating) WIP said that even if I never complete it, they're glad they got to read what I DID post.
Also, since WIPs are marked, they're easily avoidable for the people who don't want to invest... but I feel you. I probably wouldn't complete a 300k story if I had to write the whole thing on my drive before posting it.
I'm getting better about writing on my own these days, but starting out? No way.

I'm glad someone said that. There are some WIPs out there that I adored. They've been dormant for so long, I don't hold out much hope that they'll be completed... but were they so fantastic that they're worth reading, even so? Absolutely!
