New Question

Is fandom and canon pretty interchangeable these days? I've noticed that a lot of people use fandom when they mean canon. (i.e. What scene in your fandom is your favorite?) But there also seem to be contexts where you mean fandom as a separate entity. When people say, "What's your favorite fandom?" do you think they mean, "What's your favorite canon?" or "What fandom experience is the best?"

Yeah, basically. It's just really weird an awkward to say stuff like "fictional work you are in the fandom for" instead of "fandom."

Sometimes people will say "book/movie/show/comic/game" though.

Isn't that what the "canon" is?

Not from my experience? I think people that say that are exceptions. At least I personally haven't encountered fandom and canon used interchangeably except very, very rarely, probably by mistake (or from people that I assumed didn't know what "fandom" and "canon" actually mean - not because I think they're stupid or something, but because I think they're not familiar with the terminology or their English isn't very good).
When someone says "what's your fav fandom" I think they mean "best fandom experience".

Fandom and canon are not interchangeable.
