Re: Writing Habits
(Anonymous) 2016-04-04 01:00 am (UTC)(link)Lately, though, I've been under enough stress that it's really sapping my creativity. Sometimes I'll open up the fic I'm working on and stare at the same page for two hours, and then close it without writing a word. Sometimes I can squeeze out a paragraph or two but that's it. I'm hoping that in May, when this event is done, I'll find my creative streak again.
I don't like having to rely on something to push me, like music or a certain place, but when I'm really blocked and need to force through it, a little mindless music (old favorites from the 90s, nothing that would thematically or atmospherically affect the fic) and sitting in my room or the office helps. But I don't like it, I want to be able to sit and write on the couch while my partner watches tv or plays games like I used to.
Oh, and I totally write by the seat of my pants. I used to write more like a jigsaw puzzle - I'd write whatever scene was in my head and then insert it into the overall narrative when and where it worked - but lately I've been writing linearly, scene by scene, with only a handful of notes in case I thought of something that needs to be said or done in that scene.
