I know I'm super late to the party, but I think almost every fanfic writer I've talked to has had this happen to them. It seems the more you love and are proud of a fic, the less fandom at large seem to like it.

It happens to me on a regular basis. Spent months lovingly crafting and researching a fic? Only the diehards respond. Write something random I tossed off in a night? Instant popularity!

You're definitely not alone.
