I really feel you on both halves of this, OP. I don't react quite that strongly to end of the world movies, but they generally go on my Do Not Want list. --And re part 2, I also find that really moving.

So, yeah. I feel you.

Sorry, OP, I LOLed.

I love end of the world movies. They are my secret guilty pleasure. I really love the crappy ones made by SyFy and The Asylum.

I can't watch them because they're incredibly repetitive and boring. :/

Honestly dumb End of the World movies are kind of my jam, but I also get having weird hang-ups over certain genre's.

(Zombie movies do this to me, my brain will convince itself that the zombie apocalypse is going to start and I wont sleep right for days(it used to be a week but I've gotten better)).

(Anonymous) 2016-04-05 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Same here - if there's asteroids or earthquakes or whatever, that's fine, but end of the world zombies really freak me out. (The iZombie zombies are ok, because they're more like people with a chronic disease.)

I used to like them and then I got caught in a terrible hurricane evacuation and I (and my cats) nearly died from heat stroke. Ever since then I get panic attacks when I see the part where everyone gets stuck in the obligatory traffic jam.

Me, too.

I have anxiety, so watching those kind of movies means I'll be paranoia for days and ugh, don't need that.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-05 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I feel you, OP. I had nightmares for weeks after watching the Day After Tomorrow, Deep Impact and The Knowing, because when I start watching apocalypse movies I have to watch it through to the end.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-05 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
The movie that scared me the most was The Day After from the 80s. I've watched that movie in class and couldn't sleep without thinking about the atomic bomb scene.

I had the same problem, but I found that people picking apart the absolutely terrible science in these kinds of movies helped out a lot. Now I rewatch 2012 and laugh my fucking ass off because "THE NEUTRINOS ARE MUTATING!" just makes me think of Dara O'Briain's stand up and "the Latinos are mutating!"

It may help you, too.

You must be young.

I grew up during the Cold War and we had to read On the Beach, The Day After, and ever post-nuclear-holocaust movie/book/tv miniseries ever. We had nuclear alarm drills IN REAL LIFE where we had to run to the fallout shelter.

This was not entertainment, like you're talking, this was shoved down our throats with no ability to opt out, and even if we could, it was, you know, COLD WAR, MAD and all that.

Anxious at a movie that you can just turn off? You poor, poor special snowflake.

Wow, you're a dick.

It was messed up, is what it was.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-05 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm about your age and it's given me a phobia for life. But I also feel sorry for kids of today with ENVIRONMENTAL DEVASTATION WE ALL DIE A SLOW NASTY DEATH AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! At least our inevitable nuclear death wasn't our own fault.

My parents went through the same thing. Oddly enough it made them more understanding about other people's fears instead of turning them into raging bellends like yourself.

I was born in the 80s so I missed out on all that stuff and yet Threads is still the most single horrifying movie I have ever seen in my entire life. That last 10 seconds, man. Made me want to vomit-cry.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-05 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, man, I get you. I grew up in a religion that was apocalyptic, and people didn't seem to understand why that was a GIANT PROBLEM for me.

I have no problem with your message here, though I don't have the same issue. My only problem is did you have to pick Armageddon instead of The Day After Tomorrow? I hate Armageddon, as it shows plenty of Michael Bay's faults.

(Pointless shallow complaint is shallow.)
