I used to think Halo was a dumb male thing. A stupid power fantasy for dudebros. I still think this about most of the players, particularly online, but the story? No that is a solid and quite engaging sci fi story with a full and thrilling world. Cortana is gross as fuck, but the world is brilliant.

I think a lot of people who dismiss things as male fantasy power trips have never played or watched the things they're talking about.

I especially lol when they say that about Metal Gear.

Have you seem what they do to the women in that series. No, Metal Gear is beyond saving.

Some problematic elements don't make something a totally meaningless series.

Be that as it may, what other series do you know of actually dares to approach serious topics like nuclear war, genetic manipulation, control of information, action movie tropes and how they glorify violence, how mutually assured destruction is a fucking insane way to ensure world peace, the role of soldiers and free will with each entry?

Pretty sure they don't know that Metal Gear talks about any of those because they've never played it.

I think it's more telling that you automatically assume people in this thread are men, as though female gamers don't exist yourself.

I'm not assuming that gamers are all men, just that the people defending the games that brought us this character design are probably men. Boys at least:

I don't even disagree with you that Quiet or really nearly all the female characters in this series are "problematic" or whatever 5 dollar word you want to use. (Funny thing is, nobody seemed to give a shit until Quiet, and now all of a sudden MGS is setting back feminism 30 years? BUllshit.) You're just flat-out ignoring everything else about the series and telling us that the series objectively has no worth when that simply isn't true.

The point I was making to begin with is one character doesn't make the rest of the series meaningless.

I'm not even disagreeing with you that Quiet is stupid and the reason for her outfit is stupid. It is. I simply don't think her existence erases the entire rest of the series or the issues it brings up or discusses.

Don't judge the entire game series on what you've heard about Quiet (who I'm going to assume is the main woman in question here.) Play the game, and you'll see why she dresses the way it does. Flimsy excuse or not, at least it's a plausible reason.
