Wait.. are these the actual graphics of the game? People have been recommending me this (I love Harvest Moon) and I've been meaning to look into it, but it's like an SNES style game?

Yeah, it has SNES-like visuals. I remember noticing some of the sprite poses were ref'd directly from Chrono Trigger.

I'm playing it now. While I enjoy the game, the graphics are very, very... not good.

From the other night in my game:

It cannot be worst than the marriage candidates for Harvest Moon DS Cute. Look them up.

In general, female marriage candidates are always so cute and beautiful but the males candidates are either ugly old dudes or childish with crappy haircuts.

Nothing said female players were an afterthought quite like that shitty selection of bachelors. I was such an angry child when I saw it, lmao.

What??? The candidates for HMDS:C were perfect, how dare you.

Actually the characters for HMDS basically started out from an earlier game where you could only play as a guy so the male characters were more of an afterthought. They're still well-loved characters though.

It's another game where I feel like I just need to have the Wiki open the whole time to do anything with it, including how to romance anyone.

The girls aren't bad, but the dudes like... I dunno, they're kinda weird. Alex and Elliot seem so self-absorbed, and I'm only gunning for Sebastian now because he keeps talking to me about staying up late reading and I can get behind that kind of nonsense.

Eh, with those kind of classic graphics I'm not going to be looking for an attractive partner, but rather one who furthers my character's storyline in an interesting way. I won't be playing that game for the smexy anyway, when I get it. I will be playing it for the time-consuming resource management strategy cuteness <333

There are no actual perks to marriage depending on the character; whoever you marry gets you the same storyline really, since Concerned Ape didn't want people to pick characters to marry based on perks or any of that. :)

Maybe I just won't marry anyone, then! :P

Yeah, mte. I want a SO on this game that I think looks cute, but I don't like any of them. There aren't even any non-romanceable NPCs I find appealing. At least in a lot of the Harvest Moon games most of the bacherlor/ettes had the kawaii anime thing going for them.

When I get this game (busy with school atm and I know it'll eat away at my time) I'm probably going to use some of the mods. I appreciate what the creator did with the aesthetics (retro pixel graphics, yay!), but I'll admit I'm shallow when it comes to pixelated people.

There are mods with the portraits being replaced by kawaii/anime type artworks, so you should find something you like!

Does this game have same-sex romance? I usually play a guy in Harvest Moon so I can romance the female marriage candidates, but I'd rather play a girl if I could.

Yep! I play a male character, and I'm marrying a man. Spring wedding! :P

All the hot male characters are married (Kent) or self-friend-zoned (Wizard.) I'd even get with Linus just because he's adorable but I can't. The male bachelors are hipsters and teen boys. Do not want.

Maybe someone will make a sexy mod like someone did for the ladies to make the boys into slutty looking men. That's a sad thing to wish for. I do not care.

But I really like this game regardless. :)

As far as I've seen, you're not alone with wanting to romance the wizard or Linus - I think there is a mod in the works for the latter, at least. ConcernedApe also said he'll definitely add some more marriage candidates.
I think none of the bachelors is actually a teen though.

And I bet there will be a "hot bachelors" type of mod sooner or later, if there isn't one already.
