i think in the vast majority of cases, people who identify as otherkin or fictional characters are only doing so on the internet. i'm sure that in real life, they aren't turning in their assignments and tests under the name "sonic (the hedgehog)". teachers and professors wouldn't put up with that shit.

i know there are some weirdos out there who run around pretending to be wolves and howling at things, but for most people the "identity" never leaves the internet. it's more about feeling extra special in front of internet peers.

Don't have the ability to link right now, but there's a person who just had their ears lopped off and nose altered because they think they're a dragon. So yeah, it does leak out into the real world.

And that person, Eva Tiamat Medusa, is a transwoman. Someone better tell her she's being disrespectful to her identity by being a manipulative cultist who pretends to be something she isn't for attention.

i said vast majority of cases, anon. not many teens (because most kin are teens) have the money to get their noses surgically altered to look like dragons. i suspect even less are chopping off their own ears. you're talking about extreme examples that go beyond just the usual yearning for attention.

I had a student who put his name as "Balto" on all his assignments. And I didn't teach in an elementary school. So, yeah. This is a thing, at least for some people.
