Who cares how terrible your handwriting is? Have fun using your pen. A lot of people who love and enjoy fountain pens have bad handwriting, including many popular pen review blogs. They're not for people with amazing handwriting, they're just different kinds of pens (albeit usually more expensive). If you want to improve your handwriting (always a worthwhile venture whether you use a fountain pen or a biro), this article I think was the most helpful I've read recently, Joy of Flex part 2 is also helpful even if you're not concerned with copperplate.
