Someone please explain what fictionkin even means. Is it like that thing where people believe they're really a wolf/dog/etc on the inside, only with fictional characters instead of animals?

pretty much. they believe they were a specific fictional character in a past life. and still have the memories of it. but sometimes they're more than just one fictional character. when they're talking it can sound a lot like role play... except they're not playing, they're serious. and they think they own the character, so no one else can use pretend to be them and they're the only one who truly know the character.

Special mention must go to the Na'vikin. They were a thing long before fictionkin was even a word, and they were very prominent as part of a wider, very weird reaction to Avatar that some people had.

And they were preceded by people who list their religion as Jedi in complete seriousness.

Or who listed "Klingon" as a language they speak fluently.
