That's because isn't really about race, it's about skintone color. I see it a lot in my own fandom too, lots of canonically asian or mixed but light-skinned characters frequently get drawn as black or with super dark skin. If you "look" even a little white to tumblr-types, you don't count as a "real" POC.

Pretty much this. It's like the only "acceptable" way to be POC on Tumblr is to have dark skin.
