I know nothing about Homestuck. How does it do this?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)

I too know nothing about Homestuck, so....what's vriska?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
She's a particular homestuck character who does some bad things

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
i dont agree with this, some of the characters start like that, but they change
masu_trout: Delicious. ((KH) Roxas *Starry-Eyed*)

I don't think it rewards them so much as it just... doesn't always punish them. For a series with a literal built-in karmic scale (well, clock), it can be very lax about its' characters' morality. I always kind of liked that about it, TBH.

Same. Actions have *consequences*, but there's no just world fallacy micromanaging what those consequences are - just other people reacting to everyone's behavior.

agreed... for the most part I wasn't sure whether the comic condones Vriska's behavior as at least efficient, but after the retcon that basically made her pushiness the decisive factor to win the game... it was difficult to read differently.

plus when Roxy says she should have been more of a "bitch who kicks people in the ass" like Vriska in her session, you know Hussie means it :/

... I'm glad I jumped ship at the outset of Act 6 when everybody started acting like assholes, but I'm a bit saddened to hear about this because Roxy's the only one of the new kids I actually liked.

many people still adore her, she's definitely up there with fandom's favorite characters (especially on r/homestuck). but yeah, that scene really illustrated the problems I had with her development.

she got some fun and cute scenes with Calliope, Rose and John, she managed to overcome her alcoholism and triumphed over the Condesce.
but by the end she was lauded by all her friends as the only good person and true friendleader of their group, she could do no wrong.

Roxy always had problems with passive aggressiveness. at worst she bullied people in outbursts of frustration, but she's also one of the most compassionate and warm characters in homestuck. the solution to that isn't active aggressiveness like Vriska's!

I'm kinda fine with that. i want to read/watch something for entertainment, not always for an morality object lesson sermon.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP but like

yeah I get that but at the same time (a) I don't like those characters almost ever and (b) we already live in a world that disproportionately rewards those people as it is

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
yeah that's true.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
JUST LIKE CAPITALISM WHATTTTTTTTTTTT

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just glad that it's finally over.
