She's still brave for being out as trans while at the same time having really fucking stupid political and moral positions.

These things are not incompatible.

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-04-13 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call that "brave" so much as "sociopathic."

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Being out as trans is sociopathic?

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-04-13 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No. But supporting the continued persecution of trans people simply because you have enough money to be safe while your fellow trans folk get fired, bullied, evicted, and murdered is.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I... well, I try not to call people I politically disagree with sociopaths, but I'm not trying to defend her political positions.

I'm saying you can think one thing is brave and positive and good (being out as trans) while simultaneously condemning her other political positions. I don't thin there's any contradiction in doing that. That's all my post said.

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-04-14 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I think there is something sociopathic about flaunting your freedom as a rich white celebrity trans woman while at the same time extolling a system and ideology that tramples all over trans people who don't share your fortune to be rich and white. And I think she's well aware of it, too, considering the comments she made in the beginning regarding Stonewall. She just doesn't care because it's not her problem anymore.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
da

I agree.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Not all republicans are evil ya know.

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-04-14 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Until the Republican ideology moves away from violent self-righteous bigotry, I'll have to disagree.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I feel demonized.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Where being a bully is accepted behavior.

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-04-14 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone calling your political ideology evil becauses it victimizes people isn't bullying. 0/10

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You have no idea what my political ideology is simply by knowing that I've registered Republican. No idea whatsoever.

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-04-14 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, I don't. I'm going by the platform of the party you've aligned yourself with. But the fact that you hijack a discussion about the victimization of trans people who aren't rich white celebrities to say "BUT NOT ALL REPUBLICANS ARE BAD!" tells me all I will ever need to know about your ideology anyway. Regardless, you're an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet if you met me IRL you'd think I'm a pretty nice and kind person.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

I don't doubt that you're a nice and kind person. The bit that confuses me is why a nice and kind person would support a party that is actively passing bigoted, fucked-up laws. That considers it a priority to pass those laws, and that is run by and supported by people who have full-throated support for those laws. Why do you support that party? Why do you support those laws?

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-04-14 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
If you support a party that would really rather I don't exist, I don't give a single paltry fuck how "nice and kind" you think you are. To me, you're fucking evil.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to change what I can and not support things I think are wrong. But do it within the party. Change and growth are my hope for the future.

LMAO

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure this is true, but if they're okay with being members of a party led by the likes of Trump and Cruz, they're not overly gifted with moral fiber, either.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
If I ran into a burning building to rescue a litter of orphaned puppies, that would be brave of me. If I ran into a burning building to rescue a litter of puppies but I also have magical powers that keeps me from being burned or asphyxiating... well, that's still brave of me, but perhaps less brave than the person who's risking actual injury or death to accomplish the same feat. Rich people generally do not have to fear the sort of negative repercussions from risky acts that people who aren't rich face, because being rich is its own protection.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Coming out as trans in front of millions of people is still anxiety inducing, rich or not

(Anonymous) 2016-04-14 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it is. But it'd be absurd to suggest that Jenner's anxieties are equal to the anxieties of a trans person who's coming out and fearing losing their job, being thrown out of their house/family, being physically attacked and perhaps killed, etc. It is just as I said: she is brave... but most trans people don't have her privilege of wealth, and they are arguably braver.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-15 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
obviously
