I think at the time she announced the transition, people gushed about how beautiful she was because they wanted to be supportive. But it's really hard to fix plastic surgery that's gone that far wrong.

Caitlyn Jenner kills me, because when she first came out it was such a landmark moment, and she was so willing to call out problems in the American LGBT rhetoric (remember when she said "every LGBT person in America owes a debt to trans women of color who fought for our rights at stonewall"?!!). Early on I watched her show with my brother, and she frequently checked herself when she was being gross, ignorant, or privileged.

And then the lure of being amazingly rich and cloistered caught up to her, I guess :(

more often than not, rich people tend to be republican and will find ways of rationalizing away the party aspects they don't like. plus, like an anon mentioned above, they live in their own world where nothing outside their own bubble effects them.

There are plenty of people out there who are perfectly capable of staying in the Republican Party despite their long-standing, publicly demonstrated support of policies that are overtly hostile to women, queer, and particularly trans people. Some of them even post here! This shouldn't be at all surprising!

I will say, just my own experience, I see a whole lot of people seem to be a lot harsher on her than other famous people.

There's lots of rich famous people with really shitty morals and who've done terrible things and who've never shown any indication that they're not transphobic as hell. But I'm much less likely to hear someone say something like, oh, James Earl Jones hasn't ever done anything for transgender rights and he's a registered Republican. (Just grabbing a name randomly, as far as I know he's very nice and does not hate trans people) but I DO see random "Reminder, I'm Not Transphobic But, Jenner is a horrible human being! <3 <3 <3" facebook posts.

When my ex-husband came out as trans I had a really rough time with this. It shook my belief system to my very core. I felt like such a hypocrite. We were together for 18 years, now apart for 6. I have finally made peace with the fact that yes, my ex is an abusive spouse and parent, yes she is an awful person. He was, before transition and she is now. She is not an awful person *because* she's trans and I am not transphobic because I dislike her. And just because every trans person I've ever met (knowingly) has been an entitled self-centered douche-bag says little about the trans community in general and more about how very limited my experience has been.

Like I told my teenage son when he came home ranted about a transboy at school. "You're allowed to not like him, but know you are biased. Be kind and if I ever hear of you doing or saying ANYTHING that I consider bullying or even standing aside while others harass him, I will make you sorry you were ever born."

She used to be a famous athlete. Of course she's gonna wanna hold on to her old privileges, because reality hurts. She'll never be accepted in the same way she used to be because she's no longer the republican dream (white cis male), and due to her money and celebrity status, it'll take a long time for her to realize that.

I too dislike her as a person, but I think she can do a lot for trans issues due to her visibility once she learns a bit more about adversity. And think what you want of her, but her coming out as trans is huuuuuge due to her presence in media and the history of pop culture. (And also because lots of bigoted people still think LGBT+ lifestyle is a choice and a result of bad upbringing, and they can't exactly apply that to Caitlyn because she's a white conservative. So in a weird way, her being conservative isn't without its silver linings.)

TL;DR - She's sheltered and was raised to act and think a certain way, but I wouldn't fully hold it against her.

(Also kinda OT but I think she looks gorgeous for her age. She's like a mix between Jessica Lange and Charlotte Rampling in her 40s. I'm kinda into older women, so I may be a bit biased.)
