Sort of inspired by #3

What are some of your obscure/very small fandoms? Feel free to name any communities you belong to within them.

Earth's Children, which is really just one website (ecfans.com) plus ff.n and Ao3. There may be a tumblr fandom, but the series doesn't really seem... tumblrish.

Also, I'm not in the fandom anymore, but Mad Men fandom was always small. I'm not even sure there really was a fandom.

Killer Instinct. It's the only fandom I have any real interest or interaction in these days, since I've largely left everything else behind. You'd think for a fighting game, it'd be a less than desirable fandom. And sure, there's a couple unsavory people, but overall it's a really diverse and all-around great group. Plus you have generally positive people like Maximilian Dood involved, so things stay pretty real.

The trade off is that there's like, zero fan fiction (that's not on FF.net) and barely any fan art, but oddly enough? I'm okay with that. It's nice to just enjoy something and talk about it with other people and not have to worry about high school-style fandom*politics for a change.

Is it worth getting into? I saw some videos by a blind player (SightlessKombat) who demonstrated how to play blindfold matches, and it looked pretty cool.

I have so many small fandoms, and for some reason I think they hold my attention/love longer than the big ones do. Maybe because I don't get the opportunity to binge on huge amounts of fic and then burn out on it.

My favourites are Jurassic Park III, Watchmen, Zombieland, Lewis, The History Boys, Justified, Die Hard, Band Of Brothers/HBO War, Fury, Rush.

Everything Diana Wynne Jones, basically. Although there are so many subsections to that. I wish there were more Merlin Conspiracy fans/fanworks. (And specifically MC. Deep Secret is probably one of my least favorite books of hers, which is weird since they're in the same universe/share a character. But alas, most of the fic out there is Deep Secret.)

You're reminding me that I need to save up money to fulfill my goal of owning basically all her books.

That's interesting, most fans I've talked to like Deep Secret much better than Merlin Conspiracy. Personally I prefer Deep Secret but they're both excellent - I actually read MC first by accident, didn't damage the experience much at all.

But agreed. Diana Wynne Jones is my favorite ever and there can never be enough fic. In a way I'd love to help contribute to my favorite tiny fandom, but I'm always so intimidated by the idea, haha. I admire her writing so much.

Father Brown.

It's a daytime tv show about a cuddly li'l English priest and his rag-tag gang of misfits, and they all go around solving murder mysteries. I adore it.

So many book fandoms. Right now I'm thinking of the Rihannsu series...I've read like 4 fanfics with Ael and it is NOT ENOUGH

Also old TV shows like Remington Steele and Scarecrow and Mrs King.

Gaia Online. It's not small exactly, but there's precious little fan work of the actual storyline, especially the parts I care the most about.

Also, does a dubiously-factual story read via screenshots of an old 4chan thread count as a fandom? There is some fanart if you dig...

The Awakening of Nurse-Kun? That got some good responses. I've heard it had an influence on Katawa Shoujo, too.
