Killer Instinct. It's the only fandom I have any real interest or interaction in these days, since I've largely left everything else behind. You'd think for a fighting game, it'd be a less than desirable fandom. And sure, there's a couple unsavory people, but overall it's a really diverse and all-around great group. Plus you have generally positive people like Maximilian Dood involved, so things stay pretty real.

The trade off is that there's like, zero fan fiction (that's not on FF.net) and barely any fan art, but oddly enough? I'm okay with that. It's nice to just enjoy something and talk about it with other people and not have to worry about high school-style fandom*politics for a change.

Is it worth getting into? I saw some videos by a blind player (SightlessKombat) who demonstrated how to play blindfold matches, and it looked pretty cool.

Personally? I think it is. I rarely ever play fighting games -I think the last one I played in earnest was Soul Calibur 4-, but there's something about KI that I like. I think it's the fact the characters are all genre/trope-based. Also, the violence level is probably between Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat (there's lots of blood, but no gore), and the sex appeal is pretty evenly distributed between both male and female characters, haha.

They just introduced the Combo Assist system (which you can toggle), which makes doing combos a whole lot easier, but it doesn't do it all for you. It does make the game a little less intimidating for new players, IMHO. They also introduced a bunch of balance changes with Season 3, but I think they're still fine-tuning minor things here and there.

Overall, I think it's definitely worth getting into now with Season 3, but the big story mode update -Shadow Lords- won't be until at least later this summer, so if you're into story modes, I'd probably wait until then. (Although the story mode for the Season 2 cast is pretty good)

And oh man, Sightless Kombat!! He's amazing. (And he mains Fulgore, which as a shameless Fulgore stan, I love) I told one of the guys who ran the KI World Cup that somehow, some way, he's gotta come over to the States to participate in the KIWC next year.

Yep, it does! It's arguably got one of the biggest cult followings of Rareware's old IPs... but it hasn't really gotten as big as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat for a variety of reasons (largely due to platform exclusivity, even back in the Nintendo days. A PC port was just released, though)

It's also not really like your typical fandom, since they generally prefer to get all together and compete in tournaments like EVO, rather than participate in meta or make fanworks like fic or art. The competitions are pretty cool, though. There was a "KI World Cup" earlier this year and Microsoft is going to sponsor a KI convention next year (which I suspect will be a 2-day weekend thing like the KIWC), too. It's really something, IMHO.

Wow, I remember playing it in the Snes with my brother back in the day and wasn't aware it had an actual fandom (outside of youtube fan reactions). Shame on me, SHAAAAAAME!

Do they stream the tournaments or upload them to youtube?
