Audiobooks you've been listening to lately? Your favourites? Ones to avoid?

I am currently listening to NOS4A2 and am loving it! Very creepy story and the narrator is pretty good. The only thing I don't like about her is that she uses the same voice for some characters which based on some events in the book really confused me.

My favorite audiobook ever is the unabridged version of World War Z. All star cast and the format of the book was tailor-made for an audiobook.

The In Death series by JD Robb. The stories are great and the narration is EXCELLENT.

I also really enjoyed Mean Streak by Sandra Brown and the McCabe & Savage series by James Hayman.

Space Carrier Avalon by Glenn Stewart is pretty cool so far. It's straight up sci-fi with space wars and fighter pilots. The guy reading it has a pleasant, non-grating voice too, which is always a plus.

Meh, I like his voice.

All of Sarah Vowell's are my favorites, although I know some people don't care for her voice (she voiced Violet in the Incredibles, if you need a frame of reference). But I love how dry she is, and I always love the huge cast of people she gets to do the voices in her books. Assassination Vacation is probably my favorite.

Tina Fey doing the audiobook of Bossy Pants is also pretty awesome and a very good companion to a long boring car trip.

Just finished 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress' and it was worth reading. I went back and forth between audio and physical book, but I think I liked the audiobook better than actually reading it. The book is written with an accent in mind and the narrator sells it better than the text can by itself.

I have BorrowBox now so I'm getting free loans from my library (yay!) and at the moment I'm partway through The Secret Rooms by Catherine Bailey. If you're interested in history and family secrets it's pretty good so far.

I also like The Suspicions of Mr Whicher by Kate Summerscale. It's another historical family mystery one.

Librivox has some pretty good free audiobooks. A lot of them have multiple recordings so you can try different readers. I think Karen Savage does some good Jane Austen ones. The quality isn't the same as what you'd buy, but it's a good alternative.

Juliet Stevenson's readings of North & South and Persuasion are just lovely, and I also really like Emilia Fox's reading of Pride and Prejudice. I can listen to these endlessly.

I should probably stop getting the on sale books at Audible, the last couple I listened to were either poorly read or romance disguised as another genre.
Crooked was surprisingly good for an audiobook narrated by a guy doing a Nixon impression. I was impressed. It's a supernatural drama set around the events of Richard Nixon's life

Also, Starship Drifters by Robert Kroese was hilarious.
