You realize tumblr is a website where you follow people with similar taste right. You sound like you're judging it based on links from 4chan. Which is absurd.

You realize that when you're innocently you search tags for things you like, you get hit with a shit ton of SJW hate. Right?

THIS so much, this is why I can't stand Tumblr. I'm sure back in the day there were tons of stupid, childish and immature LJ users but they didn't post their stupidity on the communities, communities were only for actual discussions and sharing things and not "I headcanon this crosdressing cis guy as trans and if you disagree you're transphobic" bullshit, that shit went to their personal LJs.

So do you think the headcanon is bullshit and offensive to your sensibilities? Or just the part about being transphobic?

If it's just the part about being transphobic, can you point me to anyone on here who's done similar things, or explain in what other sense it's 'cancer'?

Headcanons are fine, the problem is when they believe that their headcanons are actually canon and start shitting on people and characters because of them.

Has anyone on F!S done that? Link me, if so.

Don't search tags then. I enjoy tumblr very much, and my enjoyment is solely dependent on my rule to never, ever, ever search tags. Just follow people, and branch out depending on the posts reblogged by the people you follow.

You want an example? OK. Every comment you've made on this thread is a good example of why I hate tumblr.

I've never posted on Tumblr. Therefore, this is a very stupid thing to say, and you should object to the specific features of conversations you dislike instead of blaming it on some mysterious misunderstanding of a specific website. This is what you would do if you had the sense God gave a pigeon.

I don't search tags on any site really. Most content is terrible?
If you think the dumb social justice stuff is what's bad in general tumblr tags you have a really really high tolerance for dumb teenager opinions.

Lately I had to browse Tumblr because it's the only place I found that cares about my current OTP and the site and its users are absolutely terrible. It's like going back to high school but these people are in their 20s and 30s.

So the problem that you have with tumblr people is immaturity. But that doesn't seem to justify calling something 'cancer' to me, and I also don't see what it has to do with someone talking about a heterosexual headcanon. Would you mind explaining further?

I'm sure that's true, I've followed people who's art or LJ I used to like and had to unfollow because they were so hideously annoying on tumblr.
But there are also some delightfully funny and wise and talented people who I've found there.
I think it sucks in so many ways I do. Just not the way these people are saying it does.

It's a legit question. The things they describe aren't new. It was like that when fandom was on LJ, it was like that when fandom was on message boards and usenet, it was like that when fandom was all zines and cons.

I mean, in some ways, fandom isn't even all that crazy right now. Nothing on tumblr has topped the childish insanity of early-aughts adult HP fandom, for example.

I hear this a lot, but as someone who was in HP in the early aughts, I don't get it. Drama was much easier to avoid back then. Moderated communities kept the crazy at bay. Nowadays it's hanging out all over the place.
