FFVIII handled the problem really well: you're paid a salary, and you can sell things that you make from (what are USUALLY) items you'd expect a monster to drop when it dies. You're a trained professional, so random people aren't going to be able to replace you!

There are definitely some games which make more sense in terms of how things are constructed - I was specifically thinking about the ones that don't, though, like many of the early Jrpgs.

Contrast with FFVII, though, where you end the game basically fucking loaded. Even if we assume that there was some sort of economical downturn with the loss of Midgar and Shinra, as long as the money is still being used, Cloud's pretty rich. Obviously, this is from a while of basically non-stop killing monsters all day every day.

Adventurers have a social responsibility to use Gil Toss to return a fair share back to the monster side of the economy. But there are no regulations preventing the offshoring of monster profits.
