I really ran into this in the Twitter with some players who preferred to RP in a First Person perspective. It creeped me out because I am not my character and my character is not me and if another player sends me an RP comment like "I touch you" I really Do Not Want because it feels like they're talking to me, not to my character.
That whole thing aside, I want long plotty stories where canon characters interact with each other. Even if I had a self-insert in a fic, that self-insert would still be a fictional me - not Real Me, but a me removed from Real Life (and usually not exactly me because I maintain I would be bystander No. 6 who none of the canon characters notice because I'm an ordinary NPC).
TL;DR - Character Reader is an idea that creeps me out because I'm not the one I want characters interacting with.
