Re: Does fiction have any obligation for representation?

If it is fiction produced by the BBC it does. Because the BBC is funded through a licence fee levied on all UK television owners. It also, in its charter to justify that fee, promises to represent all the people in Britain correctly. By its own admission it has a duty to promote inclusiveness and representation in its output, television, radio, books, etc.

Fiction produced by commercial bodies may not have such an explicit duty, but it would be very foolish to alienate a huge portion of their consumer base by not doing so. Representation is just good business for them. Not for profit fiction (like Chick Tracts, and Red Pill-fics) has no duty to do anything except exist according to the producer's whim.
