These things look so ugly, I don't get the appeal. Nendoroids on the other hand are super cute and I'm glad now there are Nendos of Western characters too.

Nendoroids are my favorite, but I can't justify spending money on them these days anymore (or action figures in general, too). Way too much of a luxury for me, but just by looking at them, you can tell they're worth the cost.

TIL they made nendoroids of series other than moe pedo bait and Hatsune Miku.

That's why the only Funko figure I got was Undertaker from Kuroshitsuji because his hair covers his eyes. But I do have a Nendoroid too, which I love because he is super cute.

I just dislike Funko Pops because they're everywhere like cockroaches and they look -and feel- super cheap. My friends and I have a joke about Funko Pops, but I'd rather not say because it does come off as kind of petty/ungrateful. And if I had to pick between the two, I think Nendoroids look better, if we're talking chibi-esque trinkets.

The only one I've ever bought was one of Yondu, though. I almost bought the Garrus Vakarian Pop when I was down in San Antonio (I'm no longer a huge fan of Garrus, but it would've been mostly for the laughs), but I stopped myself because I didn't want to cram more crap into my carry-on suitcase than I had to, lmao.

I'm so conflicted because I also think they're kinda ugly but there apparently was a General Hux one announced and I want it on principle alone - beggars can't be choosers and all...

Yeah, that's exactly how I felt when I saw they made a Yondu Udonta Pop. I dislike how they look and how cheap they feel, but when you're a fan of secondary characters, I have this obligation to get merch when possible, lmao.

The day I buy a Funko Pop is the day I'm broken beyond repair.

Aww, I love these lil dudes. They look silly but remind me of Hello Kitty

[identity profile] neoyi.livejournal.com 2016-04-18 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
And here I thought I was the only one who thought the Funko Pop designs were fugly. I don't have any problem with adorable chibi figurines, but the Funko Pop ones with their beady little eyes, rectangular-ish head, and no mouth just never worked for me.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-18 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have over 20, you'd hate me OP lol.

I have...too many. I love them! Also, the examples on here are of more of the uglier ones.

I have 11, so I'm on the way. They're not for everyone, and I can see how it would be annoying that they've become so ubiquitous (that even bugs me) but I love the little guys. (Or gals - I have a shelf of warrior women.)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I have a couple and they're cute. I just kinda wish they had mouths and, for some (like Nibbler), pupils.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who thinks they're ugly as sin. I have nothing against chibi/super-deformed stuff by any means, but I like them with rather more personality. Give me my Petit Charas and SD Gundam kits and the like any day of the week. At least then I know I'll be getting chibi interpretations of the characters (and mecha) I like! (Well, mostly--some of what I like is too niche/obscure even for those.)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
You know the thing about a Funko Pop? He's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a shark's eyes.
lentils: I wouldn't be worth much if I couldn't feel (Default)

[personal profile] lentils 2016-04-19 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, that's fair. Personally, I like them because they make girl characters and it's really, really hard to find action figures for girl characters. (Granted, some of the omissions are...weird...but still. I can be sure, for example, that there'll be a new Black Widow with every movie and I won't have to scour toy stores for months to find her.)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
At first I was going to be like "Whuuuuuut? What planet do you live on?" and then I read further and realized you were talking about Western stuff. It's weird, I collect primarily Japanese stuff, and they have the exact opposite problem, to the point that some sub-companies have recently popped up solely devoted to male figures because there's such a dearth of them.

I used to give them that, but recently they've shrunk the female bodies even further so now they're these tiny little ultra-femme things with giant heads. I liked it when everyone was basically the same shape.

I appreciate just how many characters they churn out, and from so many fandoms and shows, but god I wish they put more effort into the design of them. Those faces, heugh.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's ok OP. I don't buy them not because I think they're ugly, but because I think they're a waste of money and space. At least I can cuddle with a plushie. These are the epitome of dust collectors and I can't justify it.

Which is frustrating because I think they're cute but fandom merch isn't worth my money. It makes cons a slightly frustrating experience because the vendors hall offers absolutely nothing for me.

I don't know; I think they look fine. In fact, I wouldn't mind having the bloody Hannibal one.
