My thoughts are that if he wasn't a cop there is no way that he would get just community service. I hate that the system treats cops differently. Right from the beginning with indictment where with everyone else they get indicted 99% of the time but with cops it is the opposite.

Right? Hell if anything, I feel like cops should be held to a higher standard, because they do have power over life and death, to some extent.

My first thought is, how much lower would that number be if he were white? Would there be a number at all?

He didn't mean to kill anyone. It was a ricochet. Also, why the hell would you administer CPR to someone with a gunshot wound?

At least it looks like NYPD will be doing better training.

I agree, he didn't mean to. But he did. And anyone else would have at least been convicted of manslaughter and gotten a harsher sentence than this.

Anyone else who isn't a cop, you mean. More so if it's a white cop. Recent history has plenty of examples to prove this true.

That's exactly what I'm saying. The rules seem to be different for cops. Rather than being held to a higher standard, they are barely held to any standard at all.

Oh, I wasn't sure from your response whether you meant anyone besides this one cop or anyone besides all cops. That makes more sense now. I agree.

nayrt but if he did not mean to and it was quite simply an accident, why should it be harsher than community service? I'm completely against putting non-violent people behind bars, it's better to make them serve the community through service and make amends, rather than us waste tax dollars keeping them in prison when they don't even need reforming in the first place.

Why give a gun to someone who can't properly handle one?
Why is it always "shoot first, think later" with every cop?

Yeah, I'm kind of WTFing at the people complaining about that part because that is a situation where CPR really isn't going to help. If the man died that quickly, the wound was fatal no matter what anyone did.

I think you're digging for wank.

So? Men in Sweden get 22 days community service for raping 12-year-old girls.

He also got 5 years probation, and you're an asshole for putting accidentally in quotation marks. Get back under your bridge.
