Of course Marvel won't actually go there. But their friendship is already so close in canon (either comics or the movie) that it wouldn't be that much of a stretch for it to turn romantic in canon.

There are part of the comics where they are basically like a (platonic) couple. yeah, Marvel won't go there, but they would work as people.
