Agreed. And I feel the same way about 50 Shades. I don't give a fuck what dumb romance novels people read. Sure, by all means, let's have a discussion about separating fantasy from reality, and how some things in fantasy seem romantic/sexy but they would not be irl. Sure. Let's do that. But all the shaming and outrage over romance written by women for women, that seems to be based on telling women they are too dumb to understand how ~problematic~ this is? That can fuck right off. People can read what they like, fuck I'm just glad they are reading fiction at all!

agreed on both 50 shades and twilight, i felt REALLY weird that a lot of people were shaming adult women and teenage girls for liking both. The assumption that women are too stupid to tell reality from fiction really rubbed me the wrong way too.
i love horror, i'm not cool with murder. it is possible.

i'm sick of how everythings gotta be unproblematic to be enjoyed. nothing is. all of us are sinners. can we chill out now.

A-FUCKING-MEN

It's always women shaming and belittling other women, but somehow that's not problematic at all.

Thank you. Yes. So completely agreed on this. People having unrealistic ideals and disturbing beliefs about how romantic relationships should be certainly isn't anything new, and those problems would exist with or without 'Twilight' and '50 Shades'. That sort of thing is a symptom of much deeper issues that people need to focus on and deal with. Getting outraged over a book's questionable portrayal of romance isn't going to solve those problems or magically make them go away.

All 3 (at this time) replies to this are glorious, Yes, fuck everyone, you do you. 50 Shades is shit fiction but it's readable and people (WOMEN) enjoy it. WHy is this cause for so much public handwringing? Exactly no one is under the impression that 50 Shades is Moby Dick. Let people enjoy their indulgences. It's only because Twilight and 50 Shades were hugely successful and got a lot of media attention that the larger world even cares.
