Has anyone ever experienced phantosmia?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-20 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
If so, how did it present?

I've been smelling things no one else seems to be able to smell. Thing is, most of them are appropriate to the situation and not random at all. I smell strong body odor on myself, which, strangely enough, comes and goes. Nobody else says I smell bad. Sometimes I smell the litter box, even though no one says they do, and sometimes smell it on my cats as well. I also pick up strange smells through several walls and floors. And no, there's no possible way I can be pregnant.

Is that the same as olfactory hallucinations? I periodically smell things that aren't real. Usually it's a distinctive repulsive smell I can't link to anything in the real world that I know of (I've been having those on and off at least since I was seven), and sometimes I'll have more minor things where I'll smell food cooking but it isn't, etc.

Yeah, from what I understand it's something like that. It's just that the smells can, very plausibly, be real, but everyone assures me that they aren't.

When I had a serious sinus infection, I smelled a lot of gross smells.
