I don't understand that argument, either. I can understand people being wary of adaptations or remakes because they may not be able to fully capture what made the original so great, or may miss the point of what made the original so special/unique/interesting.

But the sorts of cries you mention, or even worse, the "My childhood has been raped!" sorts of comments...yeah. WAY too overdramatic. If an adaptation/remake DOES happen to negatively affect one's view of something they loved as a child, I'm sorry about that...but that's a personal issue for them to deal with, and nothing more.
