Yeah :/ I feel so weirdly sad about it, because he's one of my favorites.

It's so hard because he's 14. Like it's that fine line of being too much of a kid to understand certain things, but, sort of having to know better, too.

I was a terrible human being at 14.

He probably does not grasp the full impact, but it's still shitty, and some things are sadly irreversible, even when you're young and stupid.

Yup. Plus, he's *still* 14, so the whole "he was young and stupid" thing doesn't totally fly because...he's still that guy? It's not like it's been 10 years.

Edit: I was a terrible person at 14, too, but I think I would have known reasons why taking naked pictures off someone's phone and sending them around would be extremely not okay. And I was astonishingly sexually naive at that age, tbh.

True, but in 10 years time he MIGHT still look back and cringe at the person he was...if certain things go right.

i know you might not feel like it, but if you're his teacher, could you maybe have a conversation with him about why he did it?

Oh yeah, he's by no means a lost cause. But it's just upsetting to learn.

For a lot of reasons I'm not the person to have a conversation with him about it--not least because it happened a long time ago (relatively speaking--last semester). Still, I suppose this is good practice for when nice kids do nasty shit.

Right - well fair enough. You can still be powerful influence, though, don't underestimate that.
