Yeah, but Katrina sucked whereas Abbie was an angel sent from heaven to guide us through the wasteland that is television.

Gosh, but I'm sad this show was canceled after one season.

This, honestly.

Gross.

Katrina was also like--- evil by the end of the series? Not to mention she was kind of dead in the first place. Abbie was literally one of the two stars of the series.

They literally turned her evil one episode before they killed her.

Well now the show is down two women...unless Katrina comes back? /stopped watching after two episodes.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
For now, but most male recurrent characters were also killed/written off, so?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Abbie's spirit is going to be reincarnated into his new partner next year, or something like that

I'm not an Ichabbie shipper nor did I gloat about Katrina's departure but I'm sad Abbie's gone.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't like the way either woman was written off. I liked both of them, myself, and hated that the fans were constantly pitting them against each other.

And to the main point of this secret, on a more general note, I think it's beyond obnoxious when anyone gloats/cheers a character's death, especially as a means of taunting fans of that character. Especially when it's a female character-I always find it so funny/odd that people talk all the time about the problem media has with fridging female characters...but then some of those same people will turn right around and cheer or root for the death of a female character just 'cause they personally don't like them. What exactly is the difference?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's not really about the characters, other than it being an extension of a shipping war. My ship went down? Well, haha, this final torpedo will sink your ship too, and we will all die and sink to the bottom of the ocean together. Basically, in a shipping war, it's "take no prisoners".

YES! Not to mention the scriptwriters!!!

Same here. The fandom is and has always been awful, so seeing them not getting what they wanted at all is great.

And honestly? The actress wanted out, so I'm glad Abbie was killed of so she can move on to better projects without anything tying her back.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really see how the situations are comparable. Abbie was one of the two leads and the "audience POV" character, not to mention a WOC. Her role on the show, as well as larger societal implications of how the actress was treated that led to her wanting to leave, are a much bigger deal. (Full disclosure: I stopped watching early in the 2nd season and did not ship any of the pairings, but I can only hope Katrina was developed beyond the mysterious, threatened woman the audience was told all the men in her acquaintance were desperately in love with.)

She wasn't.

"I can only hope Katrina was developed beyond the mysterious, threatened woman the audience was told all the men in her acquaintance were desperately in love with.)"

Sadly, not really. They sort of tried, but it was too little, too late. I actually think her going over to the dark side had the potential to be an interesting story, but it was badly mishandled and felt more like an excuse to kill off her character.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
What were those circumstances? I only heard she was tired of the role.

Katrina had fans? Why?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Which corner are those of us who simply liked Crane and didn't enjoy to see him lose either of the women he loved supposed to sit in?

[personal profile] aniketosbriseis 2016-04-23 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah but Katrina was useless, Abbie was the protagonist (like killing Scully) and they're doomed because the male character can't handle the show on his own and if they introduce a new female character, girl better stay away from him because every girl close to him dies.

I never wanted Katrina to be written out, I just wanted her to be written well - whether or not her marriage lasted. She had genuine potential and the writers seemed determined to squander it. I felt badly for the actress, who had to deal with crap lines and shitty characterization AND received tons of fan loathing for something she couldn't help.

As for Abbie, it was a lousy way to be written out. Nicole Beharie's Abbie was the heart and soul of the series, far more so than Crane IMO, and I'm really not interested in a post-Beharie Sleepy Hollow.

Ugh, the series was one long exercise of wasted potential.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You are so right about Katrina. I think they could have killed the marriage AND made her an interesting independent female character. All the writers had to do was write Abbie and Jennie welcoming Katrina and bonding with her rather than making them suspicious of her. It would have made it more team-y and a better show.

I abandoned the show after that because I dreaded seeing how they'd handle the female characters in Season 3. Looks like it was the right call.

Agree with every word of this post.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I get what you're saying OP. When a specific faction of fandom has been particularly shitty about your fave, especially when that fave isn't that popular to begin with, you can't help but gloat a little bit when things go down in flames for them.

It's human nature, and it's about fictional characters. It's NBD.

Meanwhile you can feel bad/annoyed/outraged for the shitty RL situation that lead to it the whole thing going down in flames. I didn't follow Sleepy Hollow, but what gossip I've seen indicates that the actress who played Abbie was seriously done dirty by TPTB. And that sucks for her and for the fans who liked Abbie. And it's symptomatic of a much, much bigger problem that seems to be going down across the TV-scape.

I admit that I'm scratching my head over the pious responses about how it's "not nice" to feel a little gloaty against rival fans who've been acting like bully-boys from the start. Yes, the RL shit colors it a bit, but as long as you're not poking the bear by publicly taunting the fans, I don't think you've got anything to feel bad about. Gloat away, sez I.
