Katrina was also like--- evil by the end of the series? Not to mention she was kind of dead in the first place. Abbie was literally one of the two stars of the series.

They literally turned her evil one episode before they killed her.

Ah okay. Still I don't think the two deaths are equivalent.

da, but Katrina was also killed off largely because of lukewarm fan reception, while Abbie was killed off because the actress quit. She also apparently didn't give a lot of notice, so they had to scramble a little to find a way to write her out that would both work for a series finale if they don't get renewed, and give a plausible reason for her not being there next season if they do get renewed.

That's a lie, even the showrunners have said they knew she wanted to leave since the beginning of S3; they even planned to kill her in the midseason but chose to wait until the season finale.
