Not in the fandom but yeah it's weird when fluffy, happy shows have the most dramatic fandoms. Plus, it's pretty fucking obvious that both Haru/Rin and Haru/Makoto are "canon" and that the show deliberately set up both of those ships so it's funny to see people claim one doesn't exist or something.

What anime is this?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Free! Iwatobi Swim Club

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Yeah. I haven't seen, but even just from being on FS the fandom seems a little... exuberant. To put it politely. XD

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I can't speak for the fandom since I'm not in it, but it is a cute show. It's basically fujoshi bait though, and apparently the ship wars are nasty.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And because they clearly know what they're doing, they gave us Sousuke/Rin to cash in some more... I mean give the people who don't ship Rin with Haru another good option (hey, it worked pretty well imo!).

I love the anime for what it is (fluffy feel good stuff with some mild drama), but I LOATHE the fandom so much. Somehow it brings the worst out of people who seem pretty reasonable in other fandoms. It's really weird.

(I hope the Reigisa part of the fandom is happy at least. Really wish I was into that ship, just because there seems to be a lot less wank)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh agreed on Reigisa, since neither of them has a major competing ship in the show. Though on one hand Nagisa is a little too shota for me to want to "ship" I adore him and kind of want to read him innocently holding hands with boys... but I mostly like him having a crush on Haru. I'm going to go off on a limb here and say that is probably not a major pairing. (and since I wouldn't want to read anything too sexual because ew shota, there's that too)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
SA

Same. I mean, I wouldn't call Nagisa 'shota' per se, but he's just too cute/bubbly/childish for me to ship? I actually like him best in small doses. He (and Rei at points) feels more cartoonish than the others in a way? I can't really explain it.

And I think you're right in that it's not a major pairing. I think it's that ship that most people just ship casually, but don't care a lot about. Of course it also has its devoted fans and everything. Fans who are probably pretty happy about their peaceful lives...

I'm in the same boat as you. I like Rei but I don't like Nagisa, he's too bubbly for me and I don't like Reigisa for that reason.

I wouldn't call Sousuke/Rin a good option because I think Sousuke is a shit (I had the same opinion of Rin in the first season and than he stopped being emo). I'd rather have Rin/Nitori.

I never went near fandom and only know of the wank second hand.

Not sure I'd call Sousuke a shit all the time his motives are kind of understandable, but I WILL maintain that he's a shoddily written narrative tumor.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-24 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sousuke was lovely in the book. Still a shit, but a very nuanced shit, and he and Haru got along really well when they weren't talking about Rin actually. S2 screwed over his character in so many ways. They would've been better off leaving him out of it.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-24 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea where to even get the book, but I hated Sousuke for the same reason I hated Rin in the first season. I'm an adult, I ain't got time for moodiness.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-24 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
I get what you're saying, but isn't hate a bit too harsh...I can understand disliking Rin or Sosuke but hate?

I get that you're an adult and it can be annoying, but in general, a lot of shows, books and other media have characters that go through problems and have to deal with issues. It's like when people say they didn't like Harry Potter in Order of Phoenix(?). I guess I'm a bit surprised, I feel like it's realistic that characters will have break downs after traumatic events.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-24 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No it's not harsh. The Sousuke plot dragged the second season down and I hate it when people decide to be emo instead of just saying what the problem is. He could have told Rin, they could have had a moment, and bam, done. Instead they had to drag out the fact that he was hiding his injury. I have a low tolerance for bullshit, basically.

Actually I hated Harry in OotP on my first reading and thought he was being whiny and upon reading it years later, I didn't see it anymore and stopped hating his attitude in the book.

Yes well, people hate real people too.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-24 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. There is so much fanservice towards all ships, even the minor ones sometimes that I don't understand why the fandom just can't relax and enjoy them all instead of arguing which is 'canon' since none of them will ever actually be canon.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-24 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
For the same reason that Supernatural fandom is suck a fucking pit. Some people just have to be "right," even if it's about which fictional character is boning which other fictional character.
