Re: Wanna be a pro, don't wanna be -that- neighbor

Just practice at home. As long as you're doing it before, say, 9 PM, you're being a perfectly civilized neighbor, and anyone who gets a hair up their ass about it is an asshole. Normal life noises are part and parcel of living in an apartment building, and a neighbor practicing an instrument at a reasonable time is part of normal life noise.

Well, unless someone works third shift. Then your "reasonable hour" might be the time they need to sleep.

Honestly, as someone who works 10pm to 6am sometimes, short of actual construction right outside my window, very little wakes me. XD I know that's not true for everyone, but OP can't go around checking to see what time everyone works when a great majority do the 9-5 thing.

I'm definitely not suggesting OP needs to do this, I only mentioned third shift workers to point out that just because someone might not appreciate noise at 9pm, it doesn't make them an unreasonable asshole.

Exactly. Part and parcel of apartment life is learning that you have to give up loud noises because other people work on different schedules.

lmao no, you have every right to practice music or play music during daylight hours, sorry

I hope you get an upstairs neighbor who takes up clogging AND trombone. :)

Depends on the ordinance/whatever is in the contract. I believe the hours between 10 PM and 6 AM are considered quiet time.

It's still a reasonable hour. People who work third shift are in the minority. Most people run on diurnal hours, and that's what you have to account for. It's totally unreasonable to expect people to stop living a normal life because someone, somewhere might be sleeping when 95% of the rest of the local population is awake.

Besides, having worked third shift while living in an apartment for years before I got my current job, you learn to cope. You figure out what noise cancelling shit works for you, you get some blackout blinds, and you don't flip out because the kid next door is practicing for a piano recital, or there's someone with a jackhammer on the street.

Yeah... you're right.

I think I'm super paranoid because the idiot who used to live below me would play music so damn loud, and with wall-shaking bass, and when he wasn't doing that, he was practicing his singing and rapping. And though he would move into closed room, I could hear him at all hours. Actually, at first, I thought he was yelling at the game on television... lol

He moved out before the end of his lease, so I assume he was kicked out for being a loud asshole (I complained about him doing that crap after midnight, and I'm sure someone else complained).
