You might want to give roleplaying on dreamwidth or insanejournal a try.

I personally would not roleplay with other people's fursonas or personas (even if you know it's just for fun) because people see the personas as themselves and unwanted things could come of that. Some of them might think you want an actual romantic relationship with them in real life because your character flirted with theirs, or if your persona says something mean to theirs, they might take it as a personal insult.

At least with roleplay, there is a definite distinction between the character and the player. Not all players respect it but it is expected of them to know the difference and abide by it.
