Re: Theatrical Cut vs Director's Cut/Extended Edition

Generally I like the Extended Editions of the LOTR movies for the additions but I actually like the Council of Elrond better in the theatrical version. I will watch both versions because I feel they both have things to offer.

The extended editions of the Hobbit movies were basically pointless.

Only see the Director's Cut of Dark City. The theatrical version gives away the whole twist at the very beginning.

I am always torn with the LOTR editions because the pacing is so much better in the theatrical versions (not talking about overall length of the movies, but the actual pacing and narrative push of how the scenes are strung together) but the EE's have so many good scenes that I don't want to do away with...

I feel way. It's like "Oh, here's an extra bit with Haldir, yay! ...But this scene is pretty unnecessary and kind of undercuts the one that comes before it (they can't go back... but they can't go forward??) and Legolas is clearly wearing a different costume than he does for the entire rest of the movie."

AYRT

This is making me realize that I haven't sat down to watch any of the movies all the way through without a break since I saw them in the theater. I just . . . They're so long!

Oh yeah. Like, on the whole I like the theatrical of ROTK so much better than the Over-Extended Edition, as I like to call it, but on the other hand I just don't feel right watching the movie without Saruman's death scene.

So true about 'Dark City.'

Also, I definitely prefer the Extended Edition of 'The Two Towers,' but I could take either version of the other two.

I love the extended versions of the LOTR films, but I can acknowledge that the theatrical versions are paced better. Sometimes the added scenes feel a bit awkwardly placed, but all in all I love the added scenes so much I don't care.

The Hobbit films... Well, I liked the extended versions less, but there were a few nice scenes added, so I don't begrudge their existence.
