(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)Obviously none of this makes one "canon" and the other "not canon" since while this show thrived on heavy subtext, subtext was all it was in the end. But I do understand where the OP is coming from. If you're not watching the show with shipping goggles on (for any pairing, my friend is a big Rin/Nitori shipper and the second season did not make her happy, I felt really bad for her actually) they did kind of neatly pair them off in the second season. Rin and Haru still had one major episode and it was no doubt absolutely subtext filled, but that doesn't really change that Sousuke was obviously the "replacement" so Rin had someone to be all subtexty with while they focused on the Makoto/Haru subplots and treated Iwatobi and Samezuka as separate storylines without much overlap.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)I don't see anything in AYRT's comment that refutes any of this..?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-26 12:22 am (UTC)(link)I think your first comment maybe comes across as a bit abrasive. I've seen the show and I only have very peripheral knowledge of this fandom and the wank contained therein, but "Makoto is so dull how could Haru even like him???" is a frequent tactic that seems to be employed by salty RinHaru shippers. (And in fairness, of course the opposite would be "Rin was an abusive ass how could Haru even like him???" from salty MakoHaru shippers.) Your comment sounded like it could have had shades of that, at least from my perspective, which is probably why the AYRT (?? I'm losing track of the conversation) commented what they did.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)Which is also fine, everyone is just stating how they felt about ships and characters.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)That's...kind of the point, and a very poor way of a show treating its fans. It tells you there's no real meat to these ships, they're just there so everyone can have cookie-cutter ships.
But the show itself is about Rin and Haru at its center, because they're the main characters. The neat, clean pairings are great for merch (you can't slice everyone up nicely with just five characters), but that's about it beyond relevance to the show.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-26 04:08 am (UTC)(link)Lol you do realize a show can be about two characters without shipping them? Shocking, I know. There's no real "meat" to RinHaru either, but keep dreaming. Literally all of these ships are cookie-cutter, including RinHaru. RinHaru is as painfully cliche as the rest and is just taking advantage of another shipping angle.
Acting like Rin and Haru are the only pairing to have any "meat" to them is painfully transparent of you.
