Share your interesting science articles!

Just found this one that is boggling my mind: http://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2016/04/the-illusion-of-reality/479559/

tip: most of us don't click random links. describe the article instead?

Oh, you got such a bee in your bonnet. Also, you can see by the link what the premise is.

nope not gonna do it can't make me

Anon who posted the article - I actually agree with the anon who wanted a description.

I, too, am tired of shitty wankbait articles being posted with no description (presumably by the same anon.) Wanting a description at the very least is not a bad thing. No one is obligated to read your clickbait.

So if you don't mind me asking, why don't you click random links?

For one, in this community most of the time random links are posted by trolls and it's weird MRA/rad!fem stuff

Second, I feel like if you want to talk about something then talk about it, don't make us do homework about it.

Yeah, that's fair on your first point.

On the second, I think it depends a little bit? Like I already had a little bit of an idea what this link would be, since it's The Atlantic (i.e. it'll most likely be medium to long in length; if there's a political bent, it'll be to the left; it probably sourced from a legitimate science journal) and since the link itself includes a description (the-illusion-of-reality... So, perception, and what's really real?).

BUT...that's all because I've read the Atlantic before, so...

Okay, yeah, you're right.

Good point.

It's about a cognitive scientist, and his ideas about reality and how that links into our perceptions, and quantum mechanics. Interesting stuff!

I'm not sure I'm in the headspace to read that right now, but it looks really cool. Thank you for sharing.

I wish I had a good science article to post in response but I've mostly been reading political stuff lately. Alas.

Wow, that's awesome. Just when you think we've explored and discovered everything there is... the Amazon always manages to pull out a surprise.

Probably not real science article enough, but it blew my mind when I read it. I didn't realize some people couldn't visualize things in their minds.

Don't be scared by Facebook, it's like a blog post.

That was really interesting because I'm kinda like that. When I read a book, I really can't picture what is happening. I just read the words. I don't ever take the description and make a picture of it with my mind. I actually usually skip over all descriptive paragraphs as they mean nothing to me. I've said many times that I'm screwed if ever I have to give a description of someone to a police officer. I can't easily put pictures into words or words into pictures. I'm not fully like that, because if someone had a diagram of blocks, I could describe the diagram to someone else so they could recreate it. Or I could possibly recreate it off of someone else's description, but for anything not concrete like that? I have the worst trouble equating pictures and words.

I mean, that New Yorker article about the earth quake that will probably destroy Seattle/the Pacific Northwest is still fucking me up almost a year later. The article is great because it's got this fascinating scientific history angle to it (that whole thing about the ghost forest with the trees that all died in 1700 because of an earthquake and the resulting tsunami that hit Japan) but then this terrifying "here are how many schools are in low sea level areas that will be flooded and everyone inside will die" aspect

My interest in moving to the Pacific northwest has gone from 0 to -100. No wonder it fucks you up, it's scary as shit.
