Like it made me a bit sad but I didn't cry. Possibly because it was pretty cliche. I mean, as soon as you realized he was taking care of this small child, you knew he was going to die for her.

Not that I think a person is heartless for not crying, but at least for me, the fact that something is predictable doesn't take away from the effectiveness as long as the scene in question is done in the right way.
That said, by S2 the manner of the deaths started getting a bit old. (In the show, they often hurt as much as ever.)
