Kinda off topic, but I dont get fics that ship Shinji with Asuka or Rei. I mean,
1.) No girl on earth is ever gonna wanna hook up with a guy who jacked off on her comatose body.
2.) Rei is literally a clone of his mother. I get that people are into incest (hell, I am too to an extent) but parent-child relationships are creepy and gross imo.

You know, the least problematic Shinji ship is probably Shinji/PenPen. Sure he is an alcoholic borderline-sapient penguin, but it is still healthier than everyone else in that show.

I don't think shipping Shinji and Asuka is necessarily realistic in its portrayal, but Kaworu is not particularly interesting and functions mainly as a symbol/plot device. If I was going to read a fic, I would definitely go for a fic that focused on Shinji and Asuka (even if there were shippy undertones) rather than bore myself to death by reading Kaworu/Shinji.
