If those are the options, then I'm against it, too (and most of what I've seen has been #1 of your examples). An asexual character where it's not a big deal, there's maybe an offhand mention, and then they get back to the actual story would be great.

I guess I just get a little hopeful that there'll finally be a fic like what I just described above every time I see a mention of an asexual character in a summary, which is probably dumb of me.
